Meet the Team
Born in Salisbury, Richard Blake and Wiltshire Golf have been inseparable for over 30 years. Whilst an amateur Richard represented Wiltshire at junior and senior level, picking up numerous titles including the Wiltshire Schools Scratch Championship and the Wiltshire Junior Championship in the late 1980s.
After turning Professional in 1990 Richard was based at North Wilts Golf Club, building up great respect as a knowledgeable teacher to golfers of all ages. More recently he has become coach at both county and national levels.
Richard is now resident PGA Professional and Club Manager at Upavon Golf Club where he has been since 1993. In 1995, working closely with Environmental Consultants, he was given the opportunity to design the current course layout. Opening in May 1997 the 6402 yds par 71 course has received much acclaim for its challenging test of golf over undulating terrain with small well-guarded greens. The course is maturing into one of the county's finest and Richard remains closely involved with its ongoing development.
Out on the golf course Richard claimed several titles in the 1990s including the Wiltshire Professional Strokeplay Championship, the Wiltshire Professional Matchplay Championship three times and the West Region PGA Club Professional Championship in 1998.
In recent years Richard has strengthened his old links with North Wilts Golf Club and formed new alliances to become a strong force in golf retail. In addition to stocking and operating several shops with the staff and equipment that entails, Richard also has worked closely with numerous local Golf Professionals to maximize buying power across Wiltshire and in neighbouring counties.
Dan Carter joined us in February 2006 and soon became a valuable member of the team. After an outstanding amateur career and playing off 2 handicap Dan turned professional in April 2007. As a PGA registered trainer Dan offers both individual and group tuition, specialising in course management. He will also be concentrating on Western Region Circuit during 2015 building experience for future full time European tournament golf. Dan currently has a major club manufacturer to help support his playing career. If you are interested in investing in a potential star then please speak to Dan or Richard.
John McCormack plays a key role as shop assistant in the Upavon Proshop. A regular member of the club league team he has a long career in amateur golf. Now in an advisory role John can be found in the shop giving helpful advice to struggling golfers. As a qualified Electric trolley repair specialist John will often be found in a mechanical role tuning trollies for peak performance.
“I have had a series of lessons with Dan, from Grip to Stance/Posture and from Driver to Chipping. Result!!!!! Handicap was 18.8 at the start and came down smoothly to 15.9. The best value lesson? Has to be the 7/8/9 for distance control - I have had a remarkable increase in chips in off the green or to within a foot - which with my putting is good news. Now back to practice that chipping.”SG, Upavon
